We started our new units of work in KS3; 7/8F looking at place value and 7/8H looking at straight line graphs. To answer a regular question, "Mr Gordon when will I ever use this when I get a job?", we started the units by discussing and researching the possibilities. Students wrote a small paragraph on their understanding and some shared with the class!

Understanding place value is crucial for any job that involves working with numbers, data analysis, or complex calculations.Jobs that rely on place value are numerous, including financial roles like accountants and financial managers, science and engineering fields such as statisticians and engineers, and data-intensive professions like actuaries and air traffic controllers.

Jobs that use straight-line graphs include finance, engineering, data analysis, and computer science. These professions use graphs to analyze trends, forecast, solve equations, and model relationships between variables in fields like stock market analysis, architectural design, and software development.
