Middle Fell had great fun exploring Nenthead Mines today as part of their Science learning! We managed to find a tonne of gallium, calcite, quartz and many incredible formations of different minerals and sedimentary rocks. Our pupils also managed to find some impeccable fossils of pre-historic coral reef beds, ancient plants/trees and shells which had been compressed into stone! Some of these have been genuinely rare and impressive discoveries which they have been able to take home! We were also lucky enough to benefit from some incredibly enthusiastic and knowledgeable volunteers who shared their passion of the mines themselves with us. There wasn't a dull moment all day!
